Subashiri Trail
Location and Characteristics of Subashiri Trail
The Subashiri Trail starts at the Subashiri Trail 5th Station and leads to the summit from the east side of Mt. Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture (Oyama Town).
Characteristics of Subashiri Trail
- The forest zone extends up to high altitudes, compared with other trails.
- Once you have come out of the forest zone, you will be able to see the sunrise and the silhouette of Mt. Fuji on clouds from anywhere.
- It is an exciting experience to go straight down the trail of volcanic gravels (“Sunabashiri”, literally sand run) for descent.
- The trail for ascent is different from the trail for descent. The section between the Old 8th Station and the summit is the same as the Yoshida Trail.
- Because you cannot see far in the forest zone, take extra care not to lose your way at night or in a dense fog.
Points on the Subashiri Trail at which Extra Care is Needed
- The trail for ascent joins the Yoshida Trail at the Old 8th Station and becomes crowded.
- Because the forest zone extends up to high altitudes, you will have to walk through the dark forested area in late hours. Make sure to carry a head lamp with you.
