Yoshida Trail FAQ - General Questions
Q: Why are the gates closed during the night (from 2pm until 3am)?
A: Most climbers hike up Mt. Fuji with the goal of witnessing the sunrise at the summit, resulting in many making the climb during the night. This leads to overcrowding and climbers descending the mountain without rest.(※)Therefore, restrictions on passage have been put in place at a specific time period to prevent this from happening.
※ Many climbers who attempt to reach the summit in time for sunrise, tend to suffer from altitude sickness and hypothermia when ascending at night without any rest at lodging facilities.
Q: Where are the trail gates?
A: The gates are located at the entrance of the Yoshida Trail 5th station.
Q: Can I pay the hiking fee via credit card, cashless payment or QR code?
A: The 5th station counter only accepts cash payments. If you would like to pay electronically, please pay on our online reservation system. (Same-day reservations possible)
Q: How would I show my mountain hut reservation when time restrictions begin after 2pm, or when the maximum number of climbers reaches the limit of 4,000?
A: Please show us your confirmation e-mail at the time of reservation. You can either print it out or take a screenshot of the confirmation on your phone beforehand.
Q: If I have already paid when ascending the mountain, can I pass through the gate during the descent?
A: Yes, you can pass through the gate during your descent regardless of time restrictions.
Yoshida Trail FAQ - Yoshida Trail Gate Entrance Reservation
Q: Are the reservations for both admission through the trail gates and the mountain huts?
Q: Can I make reservations over the phone?
A: This is for paying your hiking fee. Mountain hut reservations are separate.
Q: If I make a reservation for the mountain huts, do I have to make a reservation to pass through the trail gates too?
A: If you have mountain hut reservations, you can book online or pay the hiking fee on the day of the climb at the counter.
Q: If I don’t have mountain hut reservations, does that I mean I can’t climb Mt. Fuji?
A: You can climb Mt. Fuji even without mountain hut reservations. However, climbers are subject to restrictions and cannot climb from 2pm until 3am. If the number of climbers passing through the trail gate exceeds the daily limit of 4,000 people, access between the 5th station and the summit will be restricted to climbers with mountain hut reservations.
Q: If I have already paid for my hiking fee in advance to pass through the trail gates, can I continue climbing even after 2pm?
A: No, only climbers with mountain hut reservations are allowed to pass through the gate after 2pm. However, as a general rule we encourage those with mountain hut reservations to pass through the gate at the 5th station before the restricted hours begin to ensure safe climbing.
Q: Is same-day reservation possible?
A: Yes. You can also purchase at the counter.
Q: Can I make a reservation without making payment straight away?
A: No, you must pay in full to complete your reservation.
Q: Should those with mountain hut reservations also make prior bookings to pass through the gate and are there any advantages?
A: As payment is complete at the time of reservation, the process of passing through the gates would be smoother as there is a separate counter for those who have made prior reservations, who will need to show their QR code for confirmation. In addition, it is possible to make a group reservation of up to 100 people.
Q: If I want to cancel or change my reservation after payment has been complete, will I be refunded?
AYou can cancel and receive a refund up until the next day. Changes to the date are possible up until the day before. Cancellations will be non-refundable after 2 days. If you need to change the number of people on your reservation, please cancel your booking immediately or within the next day and rebook. Any cancellations made afterwards due to personal reasons, including public transport delays are non-refundable. The only exceptions are due to unforeseen circumstances on our side.
Q: Can I make reservations over the phone?
A: Reservations can only be made on our website.
Q: In the event 4,000 online reservations have been made, will I be able to go climbing if I come directly to the 5th station?
