Nankai Trough Earthquake Information (Megaquake Advisory)
Nankai Trough Earthquake Information (Megaquake Advisory)
On 8 August at 19:15, the Japan Meteorological Agency issued an alert warning of a possible megaquake around the Nankai Trough.
It is believed that the possibility of a major earthquake occurring is higher than usual on the assumed epicentre of the Nankai Trough.
If a major earthquake were to happen, it could trigger strong tremors and a large tsunami.
※Although the likelihood of a major earthquake occurring is higher than usual with an advisory being issued, this does not mean that a major earthquake will necessarily hit during the specified time-frame.
If an earthquake occurs while climbing, be cautious of falling rocks. Remember to wear a helmet and appropriate gear, and take action to ensure your safety in this situation. For now, we highly advise keeping up to date with the latest information released by the media and public authorities. Please remain calm, be prepared to take action and stay alert for a possible major earthquake.
