Mt. Fuji and most of the foothills are designated as Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park (since 1936), World Cultural Heritage Site (since 2013), a Special Place of Scenic Beauty (since 1952) and Historic Site (since 2011).
There are also natural monuments such as lava tunnels and lava tree molds, and many historic sites. It is important to protect these precious natural and historic resources.
